Jeep® Check Engine Light Guide

We’ve all been there — you’re driving along happily in your Jeep® Wrangler or Gladiator when you see a light pop up on the dashboard that leaves you puzzled. We get a lot of questions about what your Jeep check engine light means, so our service center technicians have put together a guide for when your check engine light pops up.

Check Engine Light 101

So what does it mean when the check engine light in your Jeep SUV comes on? And what should you do when it does?

The Jeep check engine light functions as a warning that something is going on with your SUV that should be addressed sooner rather than later, but that might not be immediately obvious based on performance, sound, etc. Some of the issues that a check engine light indicates include:

  • A loose, damaged, or faulty gas cap is causing reduced fuel efficiency, increased emissions, and other problems
  • Worn spark plugs, which can hamper your engine’s performance, lead to difficulty starting your SUV or engine misfires.
  • Problems with the catalytic converter, which can lead to increased emissions and other problems
